The Founders of Canterbury

Reigate, Saturday, 30th March, 1850

Reigate, Saturday, 30th March, 1850.

My Dear FitzGerald,

—J. A. Smith is confined to his bed; and I am going to Town to-morrow to see him. J purpose drinking tea at Rintoul's at his dinner time. If you were to call, he would perhaps ask you to dine there. But indeed everything is so paralyzed by the present negociation, that I see but little use in our meeting before Monday, when I will bring a Tea or Nay from the Company.

I am very anxious that Lord Lyttelton should be at Charing Cross on Monday.

Don't over number your Committee. It is too full already to look like a real Committee of Management: and every name added to it will give it more the appearance of being nominal.
