Translation.
1874. 8 March.Bay of Plenty District.This Deed written on this eighth day of March in the Year of
our Lord 1874 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs
and People of the Tribe of Tuwharetoa whose names are hereunto subscribed and
Witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by
signing this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever
transferred unto Parish Matata Allot. 23, No. 1. Victoria Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed
Her and Her and their Assigns for ever in consideration of the sum of Two
hundred and fifty two pounds.(£252 . 0 . 0) to us paid by Charles Oliver Bond
Davis and Henry Receipt for £252. Walker Mitchell on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby
acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our land situated
at Parish of Matata and named Allotment number Twenty three Parish of Matata the
boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which
land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and
all appertaining to the said land or beneath the surface of the said land and
all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon, To hold to Queen
Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and
ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have
hereunto subscribed our names and marks, And in testimony of the consent of the
Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of
Charles Oliver Bond Davis and Henry Walker Mitchell hereunto subscribed. Boundaries. [2,396 acres.] These are the boundaries of the land commencing at the South Western
corner of the block No. 23 on the Government plan of the Parish of Matata thence
by line bearing N. 16° 05? E. eight thousand six hundred and thirty links being
portion of Ngatipikiao award. Thence by line bearing S. 73° 55? E. thirty one
thousand and twenty seven links (viz. 3740 links Ngatirangiteaorere award 3840
links Ngatikereru award, 3970 links Ngatiuenukukopaka award 9150 links
Tuhourangi award, 107 links a road and 10,220 links Ngatiwhakaaue award) to the
Tarawera River thence up the said River to South Eastern corner of block thence
by line bearing N. 73° 55? W., thirty one thousand five hundred and thirty eight
links (viz. 9950 links Ngatiraukawa award 118 links a road and 21470 links
Ngatiraukawa award again) to the South Western corner of the block the
commencement, as tinted pink on the plan delineated on the margin hereof and
containing Two thousand three hundred and ninety six acres more or less.
